Homework

Homework:

Homework can effectively help the children learn. Furthermore, there are many benefits to be gained by parents/carers working with children: parents learn about their children’s progress while demonstrating to the children that they believe learning is important.

We aim, at Trythall, to ensure that homework is used in a way that makes a difference. We would not want to overburden children with pointless tasks that would prevent the children from having time for other valuable activities such as getting out, playing and having fun.

The normal homework routine is set out below.

Reception (from Spring Term) and Y1

Reading at home, sounds and tricky words at least 3 times a week.

Number bonds practice at least 3 times a week.

Year 2 and year 3

Reading at home at least 4 times a week and 15 minutes rock stars.

Spellings to learn for test

Year 4 and 5

Reading at home at least 4 times a week.

Spellings (Look, cover, write, check) Learning.

Year 6

Reading at home at least 3 times a week.

Occasional other exercises to reinforce classwork

Revision in preparation for SATs tests

Other homework:

Optional tasks or projects may sometimes be offered that we hope that the children will want to do.

Special homework tasks might be arranged with parents or carers.

Tasks are sometimes adjusted to suit the needs of the individual child.

As children progress through the school, they are expected to do more homework and to take more responsibility for doing it on time. This is partly in preparation for secondary education. Children who complete their homework may be rewarded.
